Congratulations to Firefighter Peter Bagdovitz of platoon 2 on his Firehouse award. Bag received the award for his rescue of 5 individuals of the Woodley Park Metro Elevator.

Rope Rescue Drill

Members of Rescue Squad 1 hosted a rope drill with the rest of the special operations battalion.  Members simulated a person rappelling who became unconscious.  Squads 2 & 3 performed pick-off's to rescue the victim.

Verizon Center
January 12th, 2007
Members of Rescue Squad 1 # 4 platoon visited the Virginia Giant monster truck today.  This weekend is the monster jam at the Verizon Center.  The Virginia Giant is based out of Winchester Virginia.  Good Luck Giant.

Metro Derailment
Mt. Vernon Station
January 7th, 2007
Units were dispatched to the Mt. Vernon Metro station for the reported train derailment.  RS-1 arrived to find the last 2 cars of the train derailed just short of the station platform.  Members ensured  power was shut down to the 3rd rail.  Lt. Holt Sr., Technician Morton, and F/F's Caudle Sviland and Imbach then proceeded down the tracks to remove the victims.  They removed approx. 65 people from the railcars.

Here Comes Santa Clause
2nd Union Baptist Church
December 2nd, 2006

Santa Clause arrived early this year at 2nd Union Baptist Church in Southwest today.  He traded his sled for the Rescue Squad.  He Didn't need Rudolph when he had Technician Morton in control.  He was greeted by Mrs. Clause along with over 30 excited children and helpers.


Water Rescue Drill
Potomac River
August 2, 2006
Members of Rescue Squad 1 along with members of the Special Operations Battalion conducted a swiftwater rescue drill today.  The members of Rescue Squad 1 would also like to congratulate Charles "Chucky" Buscavage on accomplishing his lifelong goal of eating 100 hard boiled eggs.  When asked why he did it, he responded, "I saw it in a movie once and thought it looked like a cool thing to do."

Congratulations Members of Rescue Squad 1 Platoon's 1 and 2 for their Unit Commendations for Merit.  Among those Awarded individual Awards were F/F Matthew Cormicle receiving the Bronze Bar for Valor. F/F's Peter "Bag" Bagdovitz and James "Chet" Barrett received Individual Commendation awards for Valor.  Technician Terry McAllister and F/F Eric Waddy received Individual Commendation awards for Merit.  Technician Patrick Boone received an Appreciation Award.  Lt. Ron Kemp, Rescue Squad 1 Alumni, also received an Appreciation Award.
